Public Service & Emergency Communications

Public service is at the heart of what WECA does. Our members volunteer their time and skills to provide communications support for community events throughout Westchester County, and to assist local government and volunteer organizations during emergencies.

Public Service Events

Each year WECA members help staff communications for foot races, walks, and other community events. Providing communications at these events is some of the best emergency preparedness training available for Ham Radio operators.

If your not-for-profit organization needs free communications assistance with a foot race or walk event in Westchester County, NY, please email PublicService@weca.org.

Volunteers Needed

Are you a local Ham near Westchester County interested in helping out? Operators are always needed to fill communicator positions at upcoming events. Please contact our Public Service Director, Kathleen O’Keefe / KC2VCT, at PublicService@weca.org to volunteer.

ARES / RACES

Many WECA members participate in the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), coordinated locally by Steve Pendzuk / KD2OFD, the Westchester County Emergency Coordinator. These programs support served agencies during drills, exercises, and real emergencies throughout the year. To learn more, email kd2ofd@weca.org.
