Education & License Classes
Have you ever thought about becoming an Amateur Radio “Ham” operator? WECA is proud to sponsor free Ham Radio license preparation courses. Come take your first steps and join the exciting world of Amateur Radio, taught by a team of knowledgeable operators with a passion for their subjects.
All classes are offered both in person at the Fire Training Center classroom in Valhalla and virtually using Zoom. You are welcome to attend any or all of WECA’s training classes even if you are not planning to take the exam — you just may want to learn more about a particular subject from our excellent instructors!
Course Schedule
- Technician Class — begins early September, runs nine weeks on Tuesday evenings, 7:00–9:15 PM
- General Class — begins in spring, runs nine weeks on Tuesday evenings
- Extra Class — begins in winter, runs ten weeks on Tuesday evenings
On the Thursday of the final week of each course, an FCC license testing session is conducted at the Fire Training Center, 4 Dana Road, Valhalla, NY.
VE Testing
In-person Ham Radio Volunteer Examiner (VE) testing sessions are held at the Fire Training Center at 4 Dana Road in Valhalla, NY, normally on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. For details about upcoming sessions, contact Bob Casino / N2WZ at N2WZ@weca.org.
